A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHEVROLET
The Chevrolet name comes from Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss-American race-car driver, but the company’s driving force was William C. Durant, who had earlier founded, and then been ousted from General Motors. Chevrolet and Durant first teamed up in 1911, and by 1913, the first Chevy, the Series C Classic Six, was on sale. That model and those that followed brought the Chevrolet brand so much success that Durant was able to use the assets to re-purchase GM in 1918! To be clear, the Chevrolet company became part of GM as well, and the brand quickly rose to prominence with vehicles like the original Chevrolet Suburban Carryall — the country’s very first SUV.
